Music ring tone deals: another sign of the times and the MAN exploiting the art form
So it goes, big shot wireless services have just gotten exclusive rights to songs from high-profile acts--such as Dave Matthews Band and Van Halen--for use as personalized cellphone ring tones.

Although I'm indifferent to these two musical acts, I see it as a sign of the diminishing of the meaning of music, the spread of consumerism, and another unnecessary addition to the vanity of personalized gadgets.

That is my personal philosophy on the matter, as a matter of fact.

really? its not just new avenues of distribution? does music necessarily mean more coming from one speaker than another? LIVE!!!!!!!

it's a matter of CEOs (those not involved in the making of the music) making profits off the songs, anonymous....

at the same time, these artists are getting the distribution that they want. even if they are only taking a small cut of the money. but i see what you mean mr ortega. its people with bad comb-overs and no taste in music that are "brainstorming" these grandiose ideas. personally id rather shoot myself in the gonads than listen to "american baby" on some stupid motorolla phone
